New York Museum Explores the History of Lingerie

From 18th century corsets to present-day bras made in stretch lace, the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York (Seventh Avenue at 27 Street, New York City 10001) charts the history of lingerie in a new exhibition.

Exposed: A History of Lingerie, features more than 70 of the most delicate objects in the museum’s permanent collection, many of which have never before been shown to the public.

The exhibition runs in chronological order, with the earliest object on view being a 1770 sleeved corset made from sky-blue silk with decorative ivory ribbons that crisscross over the stomach.

FIT delves into the lingerie trends from every decade, from a mid-1920s bandeau bra of yellow silk chiffon in ivory lace, to a silk teddy designed by Patricia Fieldwalker in the 1980s.

Contemporary lingerie is highlighted by a custom-made bra and panty in silk chiffon by Jean Yu and a retro-style lingerie set with provocative cut-outs by Chantal Thomass.

A Sexy Fireman Calendar Made For A Good Cause (And A Love Story)

A few months ago, I announced that I was invited to an internet radio show to talk about my lingerie business for Valentine's Day.  Recently, the same show, http://www.yourworldddv.com, hosted a very sexy guest, who had a very important message to share.   

Host "JCG" Valerie Velazquez' guest, David "El Bombero" Mendoza, a fireman from Hoboken NJ, modeled for one HOT calendar!  What's different about this is that David did this in the name of love! David's wife passed away 10/11/13 at 44 years old from Congenital Heart failure.  They were only married 2 years and started a foundation while she was still alive.  She made him promise that he would continue after she passed on. A true love story! She wanted people who couldn’t afford all their medications and doctor bills to be at ease.  David along with his sister Elsie Mendoza and the entire Hoboken FD volunteer their time for this much needed foundation! Quirky or Demeaning Lingerie Ad? You Decide.

The above ad was pulled from television based on complaints with one person likening it to soft porn.  The ad, made by Crisp Advertising for Adelaide retailer Innerwear Lingerie, showed a woman walking into a tire shop in her underwear and asking the man behind the counter “can you fit me?” supposed to capitalise on the free professional bra fittings the family-owned business offers

“There is no need for the ad to show a woman going to a mechanics in underwear and suspenders and suggestively bending over the counter to ask if they have all the quality brands. I feel it belittles women and their sexuality,” the complaint read.

In its final report, the Advertising Standards Board determined that the ad “depicted images which did not treat the issue of sex, sexuality and nudity with sensitivity to the relevant audience”.

LED Bras: The Latest Craze?

LED lingerie has become the latest craze among festival-goers, taking the trend of wearing underwear as outwear to an electrifying new level.

US brand Electric Styles has created line of ‘light up’ bras intertwined with electroluminescent wiring.

The six styles range from an A to D cup and take two AA batteries and four AAA batteries if the consumer is using a sound pack.

Electric Styles created the first light up bra for the Burning Man festival, held in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, in 2010, and later expanded the line.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Moves To London

The Victoria’s Secret catwalk show will take place in London this year.

The event, seen in 192 countries, will include musical performances, pink carpet interviews, model profiles and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show.

Marketing director Ed Razek told reporters that Victoria’s Secret had hoped to bring the show to London since 1998.

"Candidly, we weren't well known enough here until we opened the stores. We have six stores in the UK now."

The show has been held in various cities across the world, including Miami, New York and Cannes, but this will be the first time it will be held in London.
